Botox is one of the most searched aesthetic treatments in Delhi, and also one of the most misunderstood. Most people arrive with the same three worries: how much will it cost, how long will it last, and will everyone be able to tell. Those are fair questions, and they deserve straight answers rather than marketing. Here is what actually happens, based on how we assess and treat people every week at our clinics across Delhi.
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin, given in very small, measured doses. It temporarily reduces the signal between a nerve and a specific muscle, so that muscle relaxes. Because many facial lines are created by repeated muscle movement, softening the movement can soften the line. That is the whole mechanism. It does not fill anything, it does not tighten loose skin, and it does not remove pigment.
The areas people usually ask about are forehead lines, the vertical frown lines between the brows, and crow's feet around the eyes. Beyond the classic three, the same technique is used to slim a heavy or square jawline by relaxing the masseter muscle, to give a subtle brow lift, to ease jaw clenching and teeth grinding, and to reduce excessive underarm sweating. A micro dose version, sometimes called mesobotox, is used more superficially to refine pores and improve skin texture rather than to freeze movement.
Nothing happens on the day. Most people notice the first softening around day three to five, and the full effect settles somewhere between ten days and two weeks. That is why we review you after about two weeks rather than judging the result the same week.
Results typically last around three to six months, then movement gradually returns and the line comes back. It is not a switch that flips off, it fades. How long it lasts varies a great deal between individuals, and depends on the dose used, the strength of the muscle, your metabolism and how expressive you are. Some people find that after two or three rounds the effect holds a little longer, because the muscle has been less active over time. Anyone promising a permanent result is not describing Botox.
This is the single most common fear, and it is worth addressing honestly. A frozen look is a dosing and placement outcome, not an inevitable one. It happens when too much product is placed across too wide an area, or placed without accounting for how your particular muscles work. A conservative, well mapped treatment aims to soften the line while leaving you able to raise your brows and look surprised, concerned or amused like a normal human being.
A good practical approach for a first time is to start lower than you think you need. We can always add a small top up at the two week review if you want more. We cannot take it out once it is in. Most people who say they hate the way Botox looks have seen an over treated face, not a well treated one.
There is no universal number, and you should be careful with anyone who quotes one before looking at your face. Units depend on which area is being treated, how strong that muscle is, and men typically need more than women because the muscles are bulkier. Broad ranges commonly quoted for the upper face are modest for the frown lines and crow's feet and slightly more across the forehead, while the masseter for jawline slimming usually needs considerably more per side. The right answer comes from watching you frown, raise and squint in the chair.
These two get mentioned together constantly and they do opposite jobs. Botox relaxes muscles, so it targets dynamic lines, the ones that appear when you move. Fillers add volume, so they address static lines and hollows, the ones visible when your face is completely still, along with lips, cheeks, chin and under eye hollows. A quick self test: make your face still in the mirror. If the line disappears, it is a movement line and Botox is the likelier answer. If it stays, volume is probably part of the picture. Many treatment plans use both, in small amounts, because most faces age in more than one way.
Botox has been used medically for decades and, given by a trained doctor in appropriate doses, it has a well established safety record. That said, it is a prescription medicine and not a facial. Common and temporary effects include small red marks or mild bruising at the injection points, slight tenderness, and occasionally a mild headache for a day or two. Less commonly, product can affect a neighbouring muscle and cause a temporary heaviness of the brow or eyelid, which resolves as the effect wears off. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain neuromuscular conditions, which is exactly why a consultation comes first. Results vary between individuals and no outcome can be guaranteed.
The rules are simple and they matter. Stay upright for about four hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, skip the gym, sauna, steam and hot yoga for the rest of the day, avoid alcohol, and leave facials or any face down massage for a couple of weeks. Gentle repeated use of the treated muscles in the first hour is sometimes suggested. You can go back to work straight away, and makeup is usually fine after a few hours.
Pricing in Delhi is usually per unit or per area, and it varies with the brand used and how many units your face actually needs. Published clinic pricing in the city commonly starts in the region of a few thousand rupees for a single small area and rises with full upper face or masseter treatment. Be cautious with very low headline prices, because they often involve heavy dilution or fewer units than the area needs, and an under dosed result that fades in six weeks is not a saving. We assess you first, tell you the units and the brand, and give you the full price before anything is done.
Botox is a temporary, adjustable treatment that works well when it is dosed conservatively and placed by someone who has looked carefully at how your face moves. If you are curious but nervous, a consultation costs you nothing but time and you are free to walk away. Read more on our Botox page, or compare it with fillers and mesobotox.
